Press Release: The Times of Malta – April 2016

Various honours claimed in the month of April

The month of April was a very hectic one for the Maltese darting scene with the National competitions reaching their climax, national team members confirmed and various honours won in the individual category.

In the national league division one, Kalkara St Joseph moved within an inch of being crowned Malta champions for the first time as they won all their matches in the month which included a 5-3 win against title contenders Marsa St Michaels which now find themselves trailing the leaders by five points with two games to go. In division two, Mosta Horseshoe Bar dominated the league and have now officially been crowned champions and will play in the highest division next season.

Reverting the attention to the individual darting scene the National team which will represent Malta in the WDF European Championship later this year in Holland has been decided. The team lacks no experience as it includes, 28th time national team player Vincent Busutill; current Malta singles champion and Malta Doubles champion Norbert Attard; 2015/16 Super cup winner and current leader in this year`s player of the year award, Albert Scerri and finally Gordon Stanmore a player which has represented our country on 13 occasions and won various honours along the way.

We have taken comments from two national team players on what is next for them after a very successful season.

Norbert Attard – “Now my focus is on the WDF European cup as this will be the first time taking part in a major competition. I will be using this experience to prepare myself well for next year`s domestic season but also as preparation for the BDO World Masters taking place at the Copper Box Arena, London in November”.

Albert Scerri – “My short term focus is to keep the top spot in the player of the year race with only a few weeks left for the season to end. After that I will be training day and night to ensure I am ready for what is ahead, mainly the European championship, Malta Open and the upcoming season”.
