James Richardson produced a stunning display as he whitewashed ‘The Hurricane’ Kim Huybrechts capping off a ruthless display from the Rushden-based ace as he limited the Belgian to just two winning legs. Richardson set the standard in the very first leg in which he produced a 13-darter. Huybrechts did have his chances to get back into the first set, but he was left to dwell on two missed darts to level the set up at two-a-piece as Richardson took out 201 in just four darts as he pinned D12 on the back of a 177 visit to close out the opening set.
The second set had a similar sort of feel to it as the opener, but this time it was Huybrechts who won the opening leg in a scrappy leg for both players it has to be said, Richardson was left dwelling on five missed darts at double for the leg as the Belgian picked out D8. The Rushden ace showed superb resilience as he produced two solid legs in which he used just 29 darts as he moved 2-1 to the good. Richardson sealed the set in superb fashion as he fired in a 15-darter as he picked out D12 for a two-set lead.
In the final set, Richardson clearly saved his best until last as he dominated the set as he whitewashed the Belgian in that set and the match as he won six legs in succession.
‘Ruthless’ lived up to his nickname as he fired in a 105 finish to kick off the third set, he then doubled his lead in the set with a 13-dart leg and following that, he produced a solid 15-dart leg to close out the match capping off a superb night’s work for the Rushden-based ace. He will face Alan Norris in the second round.
