GAME OF THE WEEK
IMPORTANT WINS FOR KALKARA SJ AND COSPICUA RANGERS
DIVISION 1 – Mosta Horseshoe Bar A v Kalkara St Joseph 2-6
Gameweek 4 saw two title contenders face each other in division one, with Kalkara St Joseph securing the points with a 6-2 away victory. After two games the score was level with Kirsten Aquilina winning for the visitors and Albert Scerri for Mosta. The next three games were crucial in deciding the outcome of this match with Kalkara winning all three which meant securing a minimum of a draw. Chris Cohen and Andy Keen winning in the singles and K.Aquilina/Stanmore in the doubles. Brian Abela gave the home side a glimmer of hope by reducing the score to 2-4, but a strong finish by the visitors secured all points with wins coming from Stanmore and Keen/Ciantar in the doubles. Next week will not feature any national league matches due to the Malta International Open scheduled between the 15th – 17th November, with matches returning on 25th November which includes a mouth-watering clash between Kalkara SJ and Floriana Ajax A, two teams on maximum points in the top division.
DIVISION 2 – Cospicua Rangers v Hamrun Education Bar A 7-1
In division two, Cospicua Rangers comfortably defeated Hamrun Education Bar A in a top of the table clash. All square after two games with Antnick Bugeja winning for the hosts and Mario Tonna for the visitors. From that point onwards, Rangers took control and managed to win all the remaining six games to secure all 3 points which meant that these two teams now still together on top of the table with 9 points followed by Floriana Ajax B on 8 points. The wins for Cospicua came from Martin Debono, Andre Zammit, George Mizzi, Melchior Farrugia in the singles and Bugeja/Debono and Mizzi/Farrugia in the doubles.

MALTA PREMIER LEAGUE OF DARTS – QUALIFIER FOUR
AGIUS AND ABELA COMPLETE THE LIST
The fourth and final qualifier took place last week with John Agius of Floriana Ajax and Brian Abela of Mosta Horseshoe Bar completing the list of the eight qualifier players for the Final stages. A large number of participants took part once again with matches played across the island. On the second night, Agius was on great form as he won his semi-final and final with a scoreline of 3-0 against Chris Cohen and Tony Borg. On the other hand, Abela had to dig deep to overcome a 0-2 deficit to win 3-2 in his semi-final against Mario Aquilina and a 3-1 win against Neville Grech in the final.

The final phase will commence on Wednesday 11th January 2017. In the coming week the Malta Darts Association will be releasing more information on the scheduled eight nights of play.
FINDER ITALIAN GRAND MASTERS OPEN
SCERRI AND ABELA REACH QUARTER FINALS IN THE PAIRS EVENT
Last weekend a group of Maltese players travelled to Bologna in Italy to compete in the Finder Italian Grand Masters Open which forms part of the WDF/BDO darting calendar. Day one saw the pairs competition taking place with Albert Scerri and Godfrey Abela reaching the quarter finals stage where they lost 4-3 in a deciding leg against the 3-time World Champion, Martin Adams “Wolfie” and Wesley Harms, currently ranked number 7 in the World Darts Federation rankings. The pair of Adams/Harms ended up winning the pairs title as they saw of the challenge of Dutch pair Mandingers/Vaes in a 5-4 victory.
Other results from Maltese players on day one:
Norbert Attard/Kevin Grech lost at the last 16 stage against finalists Mandingers/Vaes; Enrico Scerri/Tony Borg lost at the last 64 stage; Owlyn Abela/Charles Cauchi lost at the last 128 stage.
The singles competition took place on Day 2 with the best result coming from Norbert Attard; Godfrey Abela and Kevin Grech reaching the last 32 stage. Albert Scerri lost at the last 64 stage with all remaining players eliminated a round earlier. The final was contested between the pairs winners from day 1 with Harms cruising to a 6-1 victory over Adams.
