Press Release: Week 22 – Season 2016/17

The sixth week from the Malta Premier League of Darts took place at the Red Bar in Kalkara which notably saw Albert Scerri booking his place at finals night; Norbert Attard continue his 100% record and a vital win for David Attard which keeps his hope of joining his brother Norbert in the national team scheduled to participate at the Mediterranean cup in May.

Albert Scerri v John Agius 4-1

Scerri bounced back to form after two consecutive defeats by comfortably defeating John Agius 4-1. The opening two legs shared with Scerri taking the first and Agius levelling the score up in the second. A tightly contested third leg saw Scerri regaining the lead and from that point onwards there was no way back as he kicked on to win the 4th and 5th leg and another vital win which guarantees a spot at finals night. Despite the defeat, Agius faith is still in his hands because a win next week against Brian Abela would also see him booking his place at finals night and a berth in the national team, something he is yet to achieve.

Norbert Attard v Brian Abela 4-0

Six in Six, that is the record N.Attard holds at this edition of the Malta Premier League of Darts. This week he swept past B.Abela 4-0 in no time as he averaged over 80.00 for the third time during this competition. Next week Attard is scheduled to play against John Ciantar and a win would see him ending the group stages on a 100% record.

David Attard v John Ciantar 4-1

Coming into this must win match both players shared fifth place on a 2-3 record. All square after two legs with Attard opening the scoring and Ciantar levelling up in the second. Unfortunately for him, Ciantar could not kick on from there as the next three legs deservedly all went with D.Attard which ended Ciantar hopes of making the top four. On the 7th and final group game D.Attard is scheduled to play against G.Abela, with a win for both players required if they are to progress further in this competition.

Godfrey Abela v Vincent Busuttil 1-4

The last match scheduled for the night saw Busuttil ending a four-game losing streak as he claims his second win of his campaign. On the night G.Abela never got going and found himself trailing 2-0 and despite winning the 3rd leg, the 4th and 5th leg went with veteran Busuttil to end a miserable night for G.Abela. He will need to put this loss behind him quickly as next week he is scheduled to play against David Attard in a winner takes it all encounter.
